Instead of mortar, these systems use mechanical fixings and interlocking components that hold the tiles firmly while allowing natural movement and ventilation. With modern, neat finish and minimal ongoing maintenance they’re the newer alternative to traditional mortar verges. 

With older roofs, ridge tiles and verges are usually bedded in mortar. Over time, this mortar can crack and crumble due to weather exposure and natural roof movement. When this happens, tiles can become loose, water can penetrate the roof and there is a risk of tiles falling in high winds. A dry ridge system secures the ridge tiles along the top of the roof, while a dry verge system protects the edges of the roof where the tiles meet the gable wall. Together, they create a stronger, longer-lasting alternative to traditional cement fixing.
